Description: Scientific Reading (SR) is the utilization of divine Science to inform and discipline every detail of reading or speaking. The scientific aspect of SR includes the understanding that God is always the originator of communication and that man is always the recipient of divine communication. The reading aspect of SR includes the proper use of the human vocal mechanism to communicate the Science— the metaphysics— while avoiding the many pitfalls of the mechanism that detract from the literal meaning of the text. During this talk, various elements of SR will be illustrated through the use of passages from the Bible and Mrs. Eddy’s writings, with a specific focus on how to apply the principles of SR to reading at church services, lectures, or other Christian Science related events. This talk should be of interest to any student of Christian Science seeking a deeper connection with our Pastor. 

Dr. Alex Cavalli, PhD - is a member of the Mother Church and his local branch church. His experiences serving as First Reader and presenting his highly regarded depictions of Paul: Face to Face and The Gospel According to St. John began his journey to discern the nature of the reading that is the foundation of healing church services.

Dr Cavalli is formerly the Deputy Director of the Institute for Innovation, Creativity, and Capital at the The University of Texas at Austin. He has been a member of the Austin High Tech Community for over 30 years where he was an early pioneer in using the Internet for electronic commerce. In his various capacities he has been highly regarded as a skilled presenter and has been an invited speaker at a wide variety of conferences.He has also had his own consulting company. Alex has a Ph.D. in Physics from Dartmouth College.
